Russell is the Chief Operating Officer of DLA Phillips Fox.
Based in Sydney, Russell is responsible for the internal operations and performance of the firm. His specific areas of responsibility include:
- Managing the firm's Practice Groups
- Managing the firm's Shared Services
- Managing the firm's relationship with the DLA Piper Group
Russell joined DLA Phillips Fox in 1990 and was admitted to the partnership in 1997. A leading insurance lawyer, he specialised in professional indemnity, product liability and employer's liability litigation and between 1997 and 2003 built a significant claims and corporate advisory practice. In 2004, he moved into a full time management role as the Managing Partner of the firm's Insurance and Risk Management team and maintained that position until 2007. He has subsequently held a variety of senior management roles including Managing Partner of three of the firm's Practice Groups, Managing Partner responsible for our Perth and Adelaide offices and Managing Director, Clients and Growth.
During his time as Managing Partner of the Insurance & Risk Management practice, the firm was named Insurance Law Firm of the Year in two consecutive years and was a finalist in 2006 and 2007. Since 2008, Russell has been responsible for implementing and developing the firm's Asia Pac strategy and working closely with DLA Piper. He has also overseen the successful start up and development of our Perth office and chairs our internal Finance and Cost Review Committees.
Russell was appointed to the role of Chief Operating Officer in 2010. As a senior member of our Executive team he works closely with and reports to our Chief Executive, Tony Holland.
